Patients

Dr Govender believes in quality of care and thrives on an open and transparent relationship with her patients. Dr Govender tries her best to stay up to date and ahead with new trends and treatments in the medical world in order to provide the best possible quality of care to her patients.

Things To Remember

  • Please confirm or cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance.

  • Please be on time for your appointment.

  • If you have any financial queries/concerns, please discuss this with the Accounts Manager prior to your appointment.

  • If you have had any previous tests or Doctor’s visits within 3 months prior to your appointment, please inform us or bring along any or all results/ reports in order to prevent unnecessary repeat testing.

  • If you are unsure of any of your medication, please bring them along preferably in the original packaging.

  • If you have a number of concerns, you are welcome to write these down so it will be easier to go through everything with Dr Govender.

  • Please remember to enquiry about any forms, letters, reports, results you require during your appointment.

  • Please remember to ask for any scripts or medical certificates, during your appointment.

Admission

There may be some instances where Dr Govender would need to directly admit you to the ward for investigation or treatment. This may be done on the day of your consultation or scheduled for another day.

Things To Remember

  • The Practice will obtain authorisation prior to admission.

  • If you are admitted as part of your consultation, the consultation fee falls away.

  • For planned admissions please be at the rooms by 9am on the day unless otherwise stated.

  • For a planned admission please come with an over night bag and be prepared to stay for 3-5 days.

  • For planned admissions, please remember to bring along all medication you are currently taking, preferably in original packaging, as well as your ID and medical aid card.

  • Dr Govender tries to do all discharges before 12pm.

  • Dr Govender will only discuss your hospitalisation/ diagnosis/ treatment plan with ONE family member as agreed upon with you.

  • For any emergencies late in the day, after hours or over night please go directly to the ER, they will assess you, admit you (if necessary) and contact Dr Govender to see you.

MEDICAL AID

Each Medical Aid has its own set of rules, protocols and benefits. We try to stay up to date with all necessary information, however it is your responsibility to be aware of what will or will not be covered by your medical aids plan and option in terms of tests, treatments and Designated Service Providers.

Things To Remember

  • Dr Govender and Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital, work in conjunction with all major medical aids.

  • Dr Govender is currently only signed in to the Discovery Classic Provider Network.

  • All tests done during an admission should be covered under the hospital authorisation or with an additional authorisation, please confirm this with the provider before the time.

  • All Medical Aids are different please make yourself aware of your benefits in terms of Radiology, Pathology and Auxiliary services (Physiotherapy, Dietitians) whether done in hospital or on an outpatient basis.

  • For all test done as part of an outpatient investigation, this will most likely come from your savings (where applicable) or from any risk benefits available, this can be confirmed with your Medical Aid.

  • All Medical Aids/Insurances allow the Doctors to charge for additional paperwork (Scripts requested without a consultation, Chronic and PMB applications, Telephonic consultations, Special Written Motivations/Reports) if there are no benefits available, you as the patient will be liable for the account.

  • We will only update any necessary information with your Medical Aid upon your request (Chronic Medication).

  • Please keep the Practice up to date with any changes in Membership/contact details.

This practice values our relationship with our patients and would like to ensure complete transparency on the patient’s medical costs associated with this practice. All information handled by this practice is regarded and treated as strictly confidential.

Ways To Pay

If you’re paying yourself

All fees are to be paid in the rooms upon the day of consultation. We accept cash or card payments, strictly no cheques. EFT can also be done in the rooms on the day of consultation and proof of payment must be presented as soon as payment is made.

This practice runs on a cash on consult basis which means that we do not bill to Medical Aids. All fees are to be paid in the rooms upon the day of consultation. We accept cash or card payments, strictly no cheques. Responsibility on claiming back from the medical aid will be on the account holder and it will depend on the agreement between the account holder and the Medical Aid on the outcome.

Missed or no show appointments will be billed to the patient. If you are unable to make your appointment, please cancel with the rooms 24hrs prior to your appointment.

Please ensure that you ask for sick notes or medical certificates during the consultation.

Overdue accounts will be handed over to attorneys and/or a credit bureau. If you are unable to settle an account or fully pay for a consultation, please alert us of the matter.

Do take note that Dr Govender may require you to do a number of tests if need be. Please be aware these tests have a standard rate as charged by that respective Doctor/Institution. Bloods are essential and of importance to your follow ups with Dr Govender and are charged at a certain rate by the respective Pathologists. These rates are over and above the Consultation Fee.

If you have confirmed or wish to confirm an appointment, please forward along the following:

  • Your (the patient) full name
  • ID number
  • Contact details
  • Medical Aid details
  • Emergency contact person
  • A letter of referral from your GP or previous Doctor
  • Any tests, x-rays, scopes, etc you have had done (If with Morton & Partners Radiologists or Pathologists such as Pathcare, Ampath or Lancet Laboratories, provide the date of tests)

NB: Dr Govender does not do Infectious Diseases. If that is the case, we will gladly refer you along to an Infectious Diseases Specialist.

First Time Consultation

The standard rate for a first time consultation is:

  • R2850

The duration of consultation is 60 minutes for a full work up for our first time patients.

Follow Ups

If you are to follow up with Dr Govender at a next occasion in the rooms, rates are as follows:

  • 30 minutes – R1350
  • 45 minutes – R1800

Additional

This practice charges for any additional paperwork requested by the patient, main member or the
medical aid i.e. reports, medical/insurance motivations, chronic and PMB applications.

  • Forms: R600 – R800
  • Insurance Special Motivations/ Reports: R800
